Most Greek Cypriots, and thus the majority of the population of the Republic of Cyprus, are members of the Autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus (Church of Cyprus), whereas most Turkish Cypriots are officially Muslim or Protestant.

In addition to the Orthodox Christian, Protestant and Muslim communities, there are also small Baha'i, Jewish, Roman Catholic, Maronite (Eastern Rites Catholic) and Armenian Apostolic communities in Cyprus.

The Buddhist community in Cyprus has an estimated 5,000 regular temple goers with a permanent place of worship in Nicosia, the capital city.

The Indian (Hindu) community in Cyprus stands at around 2,000.
